Prof. Ashraf El-Araby, President of the Institute of National Planning, received Ms. Chitose Noguchi, the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Egypt, who delivered a keynote lecture organized as part of the Institute’s Distinguished Lecture Series for the academic year 2025/2026, entitled: “Results-Based Management as a Key Approach to Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.”
During the meeting, Prof. Ashraf El-Araby praised the depth and strength of the strategic partnership between INP and UNDP, emphasizing that the topic of the lecture is at the forefront of current development priorities. He highlighted the central role of Results-Based Management (RBM) as a critical tool for enhancing the effectiveness of public policies, improving the efficiency of development programs, and ensuring the achievement of tangible and sustainable development impact in line with the requirements of comprehensive development.
The lecture was moderated by Prof. Khaled Zakaria Amin, Director of the Macroeconomic Policies Center at INP, and was attended by a distinguished group of professors, researchers, specialists, and practitioners with an interest in planning and sustainable development issues.
In her presentation, Ms. Chitose Noguchi outlined practical approaches to utilizing Results-Based Management in support of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She underscored its role in aligning national priorities with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, strengthening evidence-based policymaking, enhancing accountability and transparency, and translating global goals into measurable results that reflect national contexts and local specificities.
At the conclusion of the lecture, attention was drawn to ongoing efforts in national capacity building in this field, particularly through the implementation of a series of training programs targeting staff from various ministries and government entities, aimed at strengthening monitoring and evaluation systems at the local level. The lecture also reaffirmed the continued fruitful cooperation between UNDP and INP in capacity development programs, including the Professional Diploma Program in Monitoring & Evaluation, which is currently being implemented.
